How to Help?
We offer different opportunities for people to help others, by contributing funds, time or talent. If you would like to volunteer, please register here: Volunteer Work.
If you would like to help by donating economic resources, the Foundation can customize a plan to meet your philanthropic goals, offer you tax benefits and a high social impact.
Some of the opportunities for community investment include the creation of “funds” of different characteristics. The community foundation offers donors the possibility of creating temporary of permanent funds, which differ in the time it takes to allocate them.
Funds can also be classified depending on the way they are allocated
Thus, temporary or permanent funds may be unrestricted or designated. Unrestricted funds are allocated to the most pressing social needs according to the foundation’s diagnosis and analysis, informing the donor afterward about the impact of his or her contribution. Our board of directors makes this decision based on changing community needs.
Designated or donor-advised funds enable donors to participate in the process to allocate their gifts. These funds can take many forms: they can benefit a specific social cause or local initiative; support one or more nonprofit organizations, or be socially invested in the donor’s name – an individual, an organization, a family or group –. The community foundation offers these and other creative opportunities to serve donors and help them meet their philanthropic wishes in the community’s benefit.
Fund types and mechanisms
Donor-advised fund:
This type of fund is established by donors who get directly involved in defining the criteria for their social investment, and depending on their philanthropic interests, may modify the purpose and grant amount. As a personalized service for the donor, the foundation carries out the request for proposals process, fund allocation, follow up, impact evaluation and dissemination of information.
This is our most flexible fund. Some of its advantages are that it is easy to set up, does not have legal fees, and the donor can increase the fund at any moment. It is like having your own foundation. + See active funds »
Specific area of interest fund:
Donors may choose to direct their resources to important areas of community life such as the environment, education, health, art, among others; or, to a particular group: people with disabilities, children, older adults, or others in need. The foundation will identify the most efficient nonprofit organizations in each particular area of work. + See active funds »
